A time that I presented information to an audience and appreciated their active engagement was when I gave my career speech my sophomore year. At the time I wanted to be an internal medicine physician. I was mostly in it for the money. My purpose was to inform the audience (my class) that doctors have to be excellent in math and science. They also have to take twelve years of school. The students in my classroom responded crazy. Most of them didn’t know medical school required all things it did. I learned to be prepared for shock or undivided attention when informing people about something new.
With Columbia I did have to convince some people, mainly my parents and friends, that this was the right place for me. I looked at the internships and all the opportunities offered at Columbia. I also realized that if I stayed in the Chicago land area I could still do gigs and hang out with friends on the weekend. I also had to convince them that Columbia is best because its an arts school. This school doesn’t focus on anything but the arts, so its more of a focus of helping improve skills rather than just making it another high school experience all over again.
