Two years ago I was given a record entitled "Vocal Studies" from a friend's older brother. He made hip hop, and knew that I produced electronic music. I appreciated the gesture and took the record home. I began to play it and didn't know what to think. It wasn't hip hop, it wasn't techno or house or anything like that. It was a weird combination of all elements of music all in a very spastic yet amazingly organized composition. The producer's name is Scott Heren but stage name is Prefuse 73. I was immediately attracted because of the different use of sounds and complex beat progressions. Nothing was ever the same, but it all locked and went together to beautifully. After i listen to the record on both sides, I did it again, and I continued to for the next couple of days. I then often purchased a record of his at the local record store. Soon I had his whole amazing discography. After listening to it for so long it inspired me to try to use un-average samples, and more complex beats instead of just four to the floor. I believe this is one of my greatest influences and I wouldn't have to sound I do today if it wasn't for those albums.
