There are two main charaters in this book, one named LeAlan age thirteen and the other named Lloyd Newman. Both of this boy's grew up in the Chicago ghettos of the Ida B. Wells high-rise buildings. They have been friends since first grade and share everything together. The authour/ documentor of this book introduces the characters in first person to allow you to see each character as an individual and not a name. He let's them show there own personalities so that when the book moves forward you get each persons reaction to events and situations that may arise.
The way the book was written I feel as if it is one of the kids around my house telling the story so it's really easy to see there thoughts and get connected to each of them. The experiences these two go through is very beliveable and true to this day. So what they were saying wasn't unimaginable, even though the crime has gone done since this book took place.
There reactions to events or situations happening in there neighborhood is almost the main focus of the book. The character traits have a big deal to do with the rest of the book. As the book goes on i thnk the connecttion between me and the characters will only grow more and pull me more into the book.
