Hello, I’m Ryan Faris. I grew up in Burr Ridge, Illinois which is an extremely quiet suburb southwest of Chicago. I’m attending Columbia to major in music composition. Some of the people who influence me most musically and to be the person I am today are the friends I made in high school. I try to life my life by “Do It Yourself” ethics. I wish to someday live off of the money from writing and recording my own music in the comfort of my home, in charge of all music production, song writing, and direction. What else? I’m a vegetarian, I’ve been on a few mid-west tours, and I really like Jack Kerouac.
Also, I was in the band This Forest for a couple years.

ReplyDeleteThanks brah.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the "do it yourself" mentality. I find it so hard to work under somebody. Who says that an individual person can't make success for themselves without some conglomerate looking over their shoulders?
ReplyDeleteYour a vegetarian how is that going for you because I use to say I wanted to be one and friends would be like look at you, you rarely have meat on yo bones, LOL !!!!
ReplyDeleteI see...
ReplyDeleteIt's great! I was one of those kids who didn't eat the meat on his plate when he was a kid so it wasn't a hard transition.
Now i eat seiten over rice! and black beans and potatoes!
Congratulations and i hope you follow your dream to pursue music compostion
ReplyDeleteMy wife's veggie, so if you ever want to swap recipes, let me know. Also, there are some great recordings of Kerouac reading his work. Ever heard any of them?
ReplyDeleteRyan, I'm glad that you have that approach, the do-it-yourself one, as I did when I came to Columbia, but also keep an open ear to what's going on around you because the networking here becomes the most gracious element in keeping you headed in your own artistic path.
ReplyDeleteI have probably most of the kerouac recordings. I have an amazing one where he reads parts of on the road over steve allen's jazz piano playing.
