Movie Lecture

The lecture of my choice would be the one given by Professor Stephanie Shonekan. I really liked how she involved us and made us think about the media and if it truly was giving us a one sided view on other countries. It would be ignorant to not question that it was possible for them to do, but I’m not sure if it would be worth it to jeopardize the media’s image just for money. Also I am a huge music fan so when Ms. Shonekan brought up that she had a class about ethnomusicology I got interested right away. I think that her studies on human behavior to music and music to cultures is very important, to get down to the roots of what makes people do what they do when hearing certain music. Why rappers always talk about girls, money, and clothes, why rock bands talk about destruction and rage. Now I know that is a closed minded view but in general how does it all relate to culture and ethnicity. What attracts us to each genre of music and if it has anything to do with us genetically. The mind is a crazy thing to try and figure out but it is also intriguing at the same time. Each person has one of their own but with many similarities to one another. The lecture really makes me want to minor in Black World Studies or Cultural Studies; I really feel it will help me to produce great music that people will really love to hear.
