Thesis Statement

I believe the message in Chris Abani's story was that we can provoke change by redefining what it means to be human. By showing compassion and kindness to others we can show others what it means to be human and in turn influence a generation of compassionate and caring individuals. But how long will it take? Does your upbringing completely account for how an individual will turn out? And do the best of us always act out of compassion? I believe these are questions we should ask ourselves in our goal, for without the ability to ask ourselves questions and show compassion, we wouldn't be human after all.
