Poverty in Chicago

I found this picture when I searched poverty in Chicago, and right off the back I notice stereotypes. They have a teenage mother in the bed with two small children on what it looks like is a bed that has linen from the county. This image represents poverty because the mother and her two children are all sharing a twin sized bed. They also have linen from the county, and it looks as though their environment is dingy, dirty, and small.. They have concrete walls beside the bed like a prison. A visual helps support my theme because it can back up what I’m saying. I think this somewhat reflects my views on the issue at hand, because I can see the poverty and this is how I view poverty. One thing I don’t do is the stereotypes and I wouldn’t expect poverty to be a teen mother with two kids in every case, but it does add on making this picture of poverty more of a reality.

  1. Nice wrap-up Mike. Be sure to focus on how this is a stereotype though, because you argue more for its accuracy rather than its misrepresentation in the end.
